UFC 300: Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill preview

    April 12, 2024

This weekend, the most talked about UFC event of the year would hold. UFC 300 is a significant event as it shows how far the franchise has come with their monthly fights, a feat UFC President Dana White earlier revealed might take decades to achieve. But it is happening this weekend and the fight card is as stacked as one might expect.

The main event for the night is the light-heavyweight bout between reigning champion, Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, who is currently ranked number one in the division. An interesting fact here is that Hill was the previous title holder in the division but had to give up the title after sustaining an injury, which kind of ups the stakes of the fight. With a professional record of 12 wins from 14 fights, and just one loss, Hill is definitely going to be a challenge to any fighter in the division.

7 knockout wins will make anybody think twice before stepping into the ring with him, and with a streak of four wins preceding his next fight, Hill is heading into UFC 300 having certain odds in his favour. But he is not the champion.

Pereira made the move to the light heavyweight division last year, after a short reign as middleweight champion, and it did not take long before he was crowned the new lightweight champion. This fight is his first title defence and it’s quite exciting how his first opponent is the best man in the division, per rankings.

The Brazilian is currently on a two-match winning streak, with both matches being in the light heavyweight division, but this weekend is bound to be quite special for him as it would be the second time he would be defending a title, since the first did not go well.

Notwithstanding, for a man who spent less than a year in a division to be crowned champion, Pereira is anything but a pushover, regardless of who is in the ring with him. Another fact about Saturday’s fight is that it would be the first time in a whole gang the light heavyweight belt would be on the light, rather than being won from a vacant position. So this already gives the type of atmosphere to expect when the two light heavyweights battle it out, as there is so much to gain, neither of them can afford to lose.
