Woods casts doubt over returning to golf full time

Former world number one, Tiger Woods has said that he is not yet in the position to make a full return to golf. This is coming as the 15-time major champion continues to recover from the ghastly accident he suffered back in February. The accident kept Woods away from the PGA Tour this year and we might not also see him in action next year as said that he has not reached the point where feels he can make a comeback.

Woods revealed this in a press conference, his first since the accident in February. He said he was not just lucky to be alive but also to have his limbs all intact as amputation of his right leg was once considered.

He detailed his experience and what he had to endure while in the hospital: “This one has been much more difficult. The stuff that I had on my left knee, those operations were one thing, that’s one level. Then you add the back fusion, that’s another level. Then with this right leg, it’s hard to explain how difficult it was just to be immobile for three months.”

Earlier this week, in another interview, Woods revealed that a return to golf was “an unrealistic expectation”. Despite the fact that he now walks unaided, after transiting from using the wheelchair to crutches, Woods said that he was feeling pains just sitting down while in the press conference on Tuesday.

When he was asked if he was ready to make a return to the game, he said: “Internally, I haven’t reached that point. I haven’t proven to myself that I can do it. I can show up here and I can host an event, I can play a par-three course, I can hit a few shots, I can chip and putt. If we’re talking about going out there and playing against the world’s best on the most difficult golf courses under the most difficult conditions, I’m so far from that. I have a long way to go to get to that point.”

For Woods, at this point, he is just glad to be alive and about. The accident was very worrying and he sustained quite a lot of injuries. There is no doubt that Woods would no longer be the same by the time he makes a return to the sport. At age 45 and with so many accomplishments and records broken, it would not come as a surprise if Wood announces his retirement any time soon.
